“Iran, the United States, and Why This War Matters”
with Bahar Sharafi

Iran is one of the most consistently demonized nations in United States discourse. U.S. officials, and media, frequently use obscene, dehumanizing, and misleading language with regards to Iran. U.S. policy towards Iran over the past 47 years has consisted of economic warfare, sabotage, and overt and covert war, with brief interludes of diplomacy. However, the history of U.S.–Iran interactions has a longer history. Sharafi will briefly review the history of U.S.–Iran relations in the context of the broader history of the Iranian struggle.
•Bahar Sharafi is an Iranian-American peace activist and data scientist living in Dorchester. She is Massachusetts chapter leader for National Iranian American Council, co-chair of CD8 for Palestine, and collaborates with MAPA in Arise & Resist and in organizing around peace and reconciliation with Iran.
Music by Husssam Bahloul, oud, Syria
& Ghassan Sawalhi, percussion, Palestine

2025 Bahar Sharafi addressed demonstrators at the JFK Federal Building.
