Being a member of CCB, here is my favorite thing about Fall: there is church!<\/div>\n

We are excited to see you all again soon.\u00c2\u00a0Many of us reveled in the end of summer at a very well attended picnic on August 30th. Thanks to all of you who attended, helped pull it off, and brought such a bounty of delicious food and beverage. Special thanks go to to Luis and Marta and the Chelsea contingent who staffed the grill, and who were with us to the bitter end.<\/div>\n

On the Friday before the picnic, Karla Rab and I traveled to Shirley to visit one of our members behind bars. His unit was on lockdown, so we had to turn around and come back. I do hate when that happens. We are committing to doing prison visits regularly, at least once every couple of months. Let us know if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d like to be part of this routine. We also want to stay in touch with our other folks that can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t make it to our events in Copley Square.<\/div>\n

We sadly note the passing of\u00c2\u00a0Ruth U. Golden<\/b>. She was the senior member of the congregation, and we had not seen her in her last five or six years spent at the Sherrill House in JP. There was no one more committed, and faithfully present, and available to this community than Ruth Golden. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the end of an era. We remember our senior members, and pledge to honor their commitment and their many contributions to CCB.You can find Ruth’s obituary in the Brookline Tab (link)and the Boston Globe (link).<\/div>\n

We look forward to seeing you, \u00c2\u00a0and many more new faces this fall at CCB. We have a really unusual and delicious set of Sunday programs coming up. We have big plans to celebrate our 95th birthday (details TBA). The most exciting part for me: this fall some wonderful music is on its way to our ears, some well known genius voices like\u00c2\u00a0Roy Zimmerman<\/b>, and some others who you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve never heard at CCB, like\u00c2\u00a0Linda Waterfall<\/b>\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0Pierce Pettis<\/b>. I am also looking forward to renewing our commitment to singing together every time we meet.<\/div>\n

My summer reading has gravitated sharply toward readings on Palestine\/Israel. I started with\u00c2\u00a0Max Blumenthal<\/b>, then followed\u00c2\u00a0Ilan Pappe<\/b>. I have subscribed to the email aggregators \u00c2\u00a0Mondoweiss, Electronic Intifada and 972. We are looking for CCB folks to be founding members of a CCB chapter of UU\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s for Justice in the Middle East. This summer the United Church of Christ, an enormous denomination of liberal protestantism, followed the Presbyterians and the Methodists in adopting a resolution divesting themselves from corporations profiting from Israel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Occupation. The UUA, with whom we are affiliated, for some reason is quite behind on speaking with a clear and resolved voice on this issue. But there is an organization of UU congregations who are talking about Palestine\/Israel, and moving the denomination to speak and vote on divestiture and denounce Israel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Help us make CCB a center for dialogue on Peace and Justice in the Middle East. We will soon announce a meeting to kick off our chapter of UUJME (Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
