Speakers Sa’ed Atshan and Darnell Moore will reflect on their forthcoming article in which two LGBTQ men, one Black American and the other Palestinian, theorize “reciprocal solidarity” as a model of solidarity that thrives on love, friendship, storytelling, reciprocity, shared experiences, struggles, and queer kinship. During their talk, they will reflect on incarceration, militarization, and mass mobilization as central to both the contemporary struggle for black lives in the US and the Palestinian fight for self-determination. The two argue that a transnational solidarity can easily emerge out of a set of shared structural challenges.

“She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry” Film Screening, now through Thursday, March 5th, at Coolidge Corner Theater. “She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry” resurrects the buried history of the outrageous, often brilliant women who founded the modern women’s movement from 1966 to 1971. “She’s Beautiful” takes us from the founding of NOW, with ladies in hats and gloves, to the emergence of more radical factions of women’s liberation; from intellectuals like Kate Millett to the street theatrics of WITCH (Women’s International Conspiracy from Hell!). It does not shy away from controversies over race, sexual preference and leadership that arose in the women’s movement, and brilliantly captures the spirit of the time.

Jamaica Plain Time Exchange Welcome Potluck on Sunday, March 8th, 6:30pm at the Eliot School Art Room, 24 Eliot Street in Jamaica Plain. Hosted by JP-NET.

Music for our Movement: The Transformative Power of Communal Singing on Saturday, March 14th, 3pm, location TBA. This workshop prioritizes the participation of People of Color and Young People. During this workshop we will explore the role of chanting, singing & vibration in harnessing power for creating the change our movement is calling for. We will share protest songs from previous movements, create original songs specifically for the current Black Liberation Movement and create a community of people who can help harness the strength and spirit of our ancestors for more effective creative actions. Together we will create a collection of protest songs and rhythms to strengthen us as we stand up for justice.
